NFPA 1006 Rope Rescue II Operations
NFPA 1006: Rope Rescue II is a specialist course for Fire, Rescue, and Emergency Services personnel. This course builds on the NFPA 1006 Level I program to the Technician Level Rescuer.
Rope Rescue II focuses on the technician level. This level of rescue is held by those with advanced knowledge, skills, and ability to safely perform advanced aerial movements with a larger degree of technicality. Rope Rescue II also prepares the rescuer to be the team lead in the rescue operation. Many technical rescue teams are facilitated by this level of certification.
This 40 hour course includes classroom and practical field exercises. Students will spend 5 days in multiple environments including training towers and outdoor evolutions in a variety of terrains.

Upon successful completion of the course, students are eligible to write the written exam and participate in the practical evaluation. Successful students will receive their NFPA 1006 Level II certification through the Province of Alberta with associated seals (IFSAC and Proboard).

Rope Level II 2025-06 (course code) - Starts June 23, 2025
- NFPA 1006 Rope Rescue II - IFSAC/ Proboard- Monday, June 23. 2025 to Saturday, June 28, 2025 - 0900 to 1700 hrs
- Training will be held at Spruce Grove Fire Department and local outdoor locations
- Written exam - Saturday, June 28, 2025 at ESA at 0900 hrs
- Application Deadline: Monday, June 16, 2025
Course presented by ESA meets the requirements for NFPA 1006: Rope Rescue II. IFSAC and Proboard accredited.
NFPA 1006: Rope Rescue II - IFSAC/ Proboard
An application for a NFPA 1006: Rope Rescue II course at ESA must include the following:
- Proof of age (minimum 18 years).
- Statement that student is in good physical condition.
- NFPA 1006 Technical Rescue Awareness- Certificate.
- NFPA 1006 Rope Rescue I- Certificate.
- Medical Training Requirement- see below.
All 1006 levels require current medical certification in one of the following:
- Emergency Medical Responder
- Emergency Medical Technician/ Primary Care Paramedic
- Advanced Care Paramedic
- Must be registered with the Alberta College of Paramedics or completed training within the last 3 years.
OR
- Medical First Responder
- Advanced Adventure Medic/Wilderness First Responder
- Advanced First Aid (St. John Ambulance or Red Cross).

It is the responsibility of an applicant to ensure an application submitted to ESA is complete and meets all prerequisites. Acceptance will be confirmed upon receipt of a complete application and full payment of fees.

ESA 2025 Fees for NFPA 1006 - Rope Rescue II
- Administration Fee (non-refundable): $125.00
- Course Materials: $470.00
- Tuition Fees: $2,000.00
- Total Fees (including GST): $2,595.00
Total fees are due with an application.
ESA fees are subject to review and will be updated by October 1 of each calendar year.

Class size is limited to 14 students. The first 14 applicants with complete applications and paid fees will be accepted.
Payment of Fees: All course fees are payable to Emergency Services Academy Ltd. Payments may be made by cash, cheque, Visa, MasterCard, Amex and Debit Card. Cash payments must be for the correct amount as ESA does not keep any cash onsite.

ESA Refund Policy for Rope Rescue II
- The Administration Fee is non-refundable.
- All fees are non-refundable as of the Application Deadline.
International Students: ESA is not able to accept international students at this time.
